Jefferson Nunley, DVM, DACVS-SA, was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. After graduation, Dr. Nunley returned to Durham where, working as an assistant in a mobile veterinary surgical practice, he cemented his goal of becoming a veterinary surgeon.

Dr. Nunley then enrolled at the University of California’s Davis Veterinary School, graduating with a DVM degree in 2011. This four-year program confirmed his desire to become a veterinary surgeon. After graduating, he accepted a one-year small animal rotating internship at Michigan State University.

After completing his internship, Dr. Nunley entered the prestigious small animal surgical residency program at the Animal Medical Center of New York, the oldest and largest veterinary hospital in the country. His three-years residency program included  high volume exposure to state-of-the-art orthopedic and soft tissue surgical procedures in small animals. Here he honed his unique interest in orthopedics and surgical oncology.

For the last decade, Dr. Nunley has dedicated himself to learning, practicing, and sharpening complicated surgical procedures and making them accessible to many pets that would not otherwise be able to receive specialty care.

After successful completion of his residency in 2015, Dr. Nunley moved back to Nashville, Tennessee, joining his wife, and children and opened Tennessee Veterinary Surgical Specialists, his mobile specialty surgery practice.

Outside of the operating room Dr. Nunley can be found at a football game (Preferably Titans or Duke) with his 3 sons, Crews, Locke & Byrne.

Dr. Nunley, his wife Abby and their 4 children, Phebe, Byrne, Locke and Crews enjoy traveling or just some good quality lake life at their home on Tim’s Ford lake.
